YOON JI SEON

사진 위로 공업용 재봉틀의 굵은 바늘이 지나간다. 바늘이 지나간 얼굴에는 투박한 구멍이 뚫리고 사정없이 찢겨나간다. 쉴 새 없이 위아래로 움직이는 실과 바늘은 사진의 앞뒤를 넘나들며 사진 속 원래의 모습을 망가뜨리고 또 다른 모습의 나를 만들어간다. 바느질이 계속 될수록 작품은 뒤틀려서 평면이기도 입체이기도 한 어정쩡한 모양이 되어간다. 네모반듯하지도 않고 지 생김새를 작업 과정이 선택한 대로 변화시키며 새로운 얼굴을 품고 있다. 앞뒤의 이미지는 같은 시간을 겪었지만 다르게 이겨낸 듯 서로 닮은 듯도 하고 다른 듯도 하다.

A thick needle of industrial sewing machine is passing through a photo. The needle makes rough holes on the face and the photo is severely torn to pieces. A needle and thread destroy the original image and create another image by moving up and down endlessly. As the sewing continues, the image is becoming an ambiguous shape that looks like either two or three dimensional image. It doesn’t look like a perfect square either but it follows and holds its shape as the work process chooses it to be. It seemed that the images of both sides look alike or not as if they take it differently although they go through the same experience at the same time.
